How To

How to make wood joints

This tutorial will show you how to join two pieces of wood together. We will use the "pockethole joint," which means that we drill holes in the wooden pieces and then glue them together. If your wood is straight and flat, this method will work well. You might consider dowel joinery if your wood isn’t straight or flat. These are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. You will need to measure and mark the exact location of your pocket hole joint. With a handheld drill machine or jig saw, drill 3/4-inch deep holes in the ends of each piece.
  2. Sand Smooth. Sanding the edges of the wood will help to prevent the joint from splitting later.
  3. Glue Together Apply glue on both sides of the wooden plank. Let the wood sit for 5 minutes, then clamp it together.
  4. Attach the Pieces together. After the glue has dried thoroughly, secure the pieces so that they are flush.
  5. Trim Joinery. Trimming the joinery after glue has completely dried.

You should leave enough space between the pieces to allow you to turn them inside-out.
